  • The Collected Works of Hugh Nibley, Vol. 6: An Approach to the Book of Mormon, Hugh Nibley (1957)

Comment: Shows the Middle East (Semitic and Egyptian) background to the Book of Mormon
Originally used as the priesthood manual for the LDS Church, 1957
Re-issued in 1964 (and reprinted in 1976) with an additional chapter added
Final, 3rd edition published in 1988, a light revision of the second edition, edited by John W. Welch

  • “Chiasmus in the Book of Mormon”, John W. Welch, BYU Studies 10/1 (1969): 69–84

Comment: Shows the existence of complex chiastic usage in the text of the Book of MormonThis seminal work has been reprinted numerous times, with revisions and additions, as in Noel B. Reynolds (editor), Book of Mormon Authorship (1982), 33–52
Also see Welch’s article “What Does Chiasmus in the Book of Mormon Prove?”, in Noel B. Reynolds (editor), Book of Mormon Authorship Revisited (1997), 199–224

  • The Book of Mormon: The Earliest Text, Royal Skousen, Yale University Press, 2009

Comment: Now in its 4th printing. Using the principles of textual criticism, restores the original text of the Book of Mormon, to the extent it can be determined (only 28 percent of the original manuscript is extant) the text is set in sense-lines (that is, with line breaks occurring at the end of clauses and phrases), not only to facilitate the reading of the text, but also in an attempt to replicate how Joseph Smith would have dictated the text to his scribes. There is an appendix listing 719 significant textual variants in the history of the Book of Mormon text (3N) in support of the Yale text.

    • Two additional parts to volume 3 will appear in 2020-21:
