Congratulations on your published article. Just a note. You write that “variances are puzzling, especially since look and behold are synonyms and may be used interchangeably.” In 1 Nephi 11, we find that the angel directs Nephi to “Look” eight times (v. 8, 12, 20, 24, 26, 30, 31, 32). This is followed by a repeated command to “behold,” or that Nephi “beheld.” In scripture, the word “behold” is NOT exactly the same as the word “look.” The word “behold” implies “to see with attention, to observe with care.” It implies focused learning and comprehension. According to Bible symbolism, the number eight is a symbol of new beginnings and very often this number was in a close connection with Jesus Christ.
